What is Pinterest?
So, exactly.. What is Pinterest? Pinterest is a nice way to collect, store and discover photographs based on your topic or interest. It works seamlessly with Facebook and allows you to add photos into your collection (called Boards) with just the web URL. You can also upload from your hard-drive. Perhaps one of the nicest features about Pinterest as opposed to say, Facebook Galleries or many of the free photo-storing sites like Flikr is that Pinterest saves and displays your images in a higher resolution and larger sizes. This is especially nice for those who wish to show their photography skills in full splendor.
Another reason to consider Pinterest is the discovery of other like-photos that you may not have otherwise discovered. Especially in the area of Travel photos there is just so much to discover. Photos on Science, Food, Humor and more make it a fast, graphic way to see what else is ‘out there’ in the Net. Once you have created an account, going the main Pinterest page will give you a customized display of photos you have recently posted.. AND an update of any recently posted images from your collection of Friends from Facebook and or people you add to your circle based on similar interests. This gives you a fast, easy way to see “what’s new”. From there you can click on your own account to upload new photos. For each photo you upload you have the option to add your own text, describing with your own commentary where, when or what the photo is about. Pinterest also allows users to Comment and/or reach you via e-mail for questions.
Businesses can use use Pinterest as a means of showing potential customers images of their services or finished product. This is especially helpful for Photographers who do weddings and special events. But also for those who do catering, build patios, pools, etc. Pinterest makes for a good medium to show what you can do graphically and with some text. Personally I don’t plan on using it for family photos. It can be, you can set up a Board just for that, but I think the real benefit in Pinterest is in finding new images and websites that interest the visiting user by topic.
